The 2011 Annual HIMSS Conference & Exhibition Call for Reviewers is now closed.
Thank you for your interest in serving as an Annual HIMSS Conference Reviewer. HIMSS believes that the review process enhances the efficiency and maximizes the quality of the education offerings to our conference attendees. Annual HIMSS Conference Reviewers are the backbone of the entire Annual HIMSS Conference education process. Reviewers are the first to see proposals submitted to HIMSS through the call for proposal process. Reviewers and their recommendations are incredibly important to the Annual Conference Education Committee and the role that they play in the proposal selection process. Finally, reviewers are an important resource for presentations that are selected to move forward to the annual conference; they act as coaches during the presentation preparation process and as moderators for the presentation during the conference.
NOTE: To avoid conflict of interest, reviewers may not be proposal submitters, speakers or co-speakers for sessions at HIMSS11.
Also, please note, to comply with the recently amended rules and regulations of our continuing medical education (CME) provider, preference in the choice of reviewers will be given to those who represent organizations with non-commercial interests.
All candidates are evaluated by the Annual Conference Education Committee (ACEC) and notified of their decision after their review of the completed application materials received. Upon acceptance, an individual will be considered a reviewer for the 2011 Annual HIMSS Conference & Exhibition.
Review and score proposals:
Reviewers will review submitted annual conference proposals via the HIMSS website. A reviewer may expect to review and evaluate/score an average of 20-30 proposals in a given topic area. Proposals include the speaker contact information, subject matter content, and previous speaker evaluation scores received at Annual HIMSS conferences, if applicable.
Recommend Proposals for the Annual Conference:
After reading and evaluating proposals, reviewers will work with their Annual Conference Education Committee topic category team leads in recommending proposals to move forward to the Annual Conference.
Work Directly with Accepted Speakers:
Reviewers will work one-to-one with one or two different speakers by guiding them through the presentation process. This process begins after the proposal selection process. The reviewer will be matched with a presentation that falls within their area of expertise and is responsible for assisting the speaker in developing their presentation materials. Reviewers will act as "sounding boards" for the speaker, provide constructive feedback and comments on the speaker's presentation materials.
Act as Moderator for Accepted Speakers:
Those reviewers who do work directly with an accepted speaker will be given the first opportunity to act as a moderator at the Annual HIMSS Conference & Exhibition, and will earn advancement points towards their HIMSS Senior and Fellow Status.
Please keep in mind that this is a time commitment on your part. Time will be spent evaluating proposals. Each evaluation can take from 10-30 minutes per proposal, and as a reviewer you will review around 20-30 proposals. Reviewers will then be required to participate in 1-2 conference calls. Please take this time commitment into consideration when applying to act as an Annual Conference reviewer. Both the speaker and HIMSS rely heavily on the reviewers to meet deadlines. Once sessions are selected and speakers are assigned to reviewers, the reviewers become the main source of communication with the speakers. It is very important both the reviewers and speakers follow ALL deadline dates listed below:
