Educate, Collaborate, Share and Network on HIMSS Clinical Decision Support Wiki
New wiki supports collaboration and accelerates progress on using clinical decision support for healthcare performance improvement
To help realize the promise of clinical decision support to enable meaningful EHR use, and widely improve care delivery and outcomes, the HIMSS Clinical Decision Support Task Force has opened its wiki to the public.
Initially, the CDS Task Force, anchored by six health systems consisting of 50 hospitals, established the wiki as a closed forum to germinate a collaborative seed focused on applying CDS to venous thromboembolism (VTE) prevention. VTE is a CMS "never event" and its prevention is a 2011meaningful use measure. Five of the six health system participants had contributed to the development of the Improving Medication Use and Outcomes guide, the HIMSS CDS guidebook published in April '09 at www.himss.org/cdsguide; they were eager to build on that content and the related processes to address an even more specific improvement imperative.
The wiki provides a forum where participants can come together to help develop, use, and discuss the use of CDS in a dynamic environment.
